| Feeling sad. |
I was feeling very sorry for my yard (myself) this weekend.
The 100 degree heat of the past week did a number on things, despite my consistent watering and encouragement. But the consistent watering emptied my rain barrel. And the heat made our solar lights fall down (we had them up there with classy white duct tape), as well as fade to a lovely celery color. They used to be more of a lime. The photo on the left shows how cute they were. Not so much at the moment.

Then I felt sad that my baby birds grew up already -- evidently nothing is as motivating as 100 degree heat to make a chick grow up and get the heck out of a two-bird sized nest that has four birds in it. Josh said he saw one sitting on the fence, probably laughing about the lights that fell on the ground. My guess is that one was Clyde. He was a rascal anyway.
And then I was feeling REALLY sorry for myself because we have not one, not two... but THREE woodchucks who live in the neighbor's yard and have decided to eat everything I love and have planted. Jerks.

Our woodchucks all pretty much look exactly like this, but with a little more attitude. I am pretty sure that after today's crazy rain, they may be doing a synchronized swimming routine in my new bird bath.
