A challenge

When we bought our house, we were thrilled by all of the work that we wouldn't have to do inside.  It was perfect for us. Sure, we added a few screen doors and did some painting, but that's minimal stuff. (Especially when we look back and think of the places we considered buying.  Fixer uppers. Can you picture me using a power saw? Or roofing something? Good grief.)
The outside, however, was a different story:
It looked like a weed bomb had gone off.  Like the shrubs were staging a mutiny. Like we were buying the yard that the Clampett family had left for Beverly Hills. Our realtor (and friend) gave us a hedge trimmer as a house warming gift.
These photos are just a taste of the many, many projects we had ahead of us.  Not shown are the broken Dish TV hookup that was sealed into concrete in our front yard, the metal poles that once held up a chain link fence around a now-filled in pool, or the craters in the front yard where pavers used to be.

Nope. I'm saving those gems for later posts. There's a lot to work with here, people.

But with enthusiasm and naivete of new homeowners, we are slowly chipping away at these projects. I'll be sharing quite a few before and after photos on this blog, and hopefully you'll agree with me that we're making some decent progress. One shrub at a time.
